BAND BIO
It's hard to believe that it was back in 1995 that a local group of runners thought that it would be fun to put together a band to play at their annual Mohegan Strider Running Club Banquet. Chris Hansen (guitar) had just left the bands "Last Summer" and "Act I" and was looking for another musical endeavor. Chris and Curtiss Thompson (guitar/vocals) brainstormed about the concept of forming a band while watching live music after a local road race. Curtiss is a member of "The Village Jammers" as well as "Run for Cover." Lucky for Chris and Curtiss, Jim Carper (bass/vocals) of "DeeBolay" and Todd Guertin (drums/vocals), of too many bands to mention here, were members of the club who were also willing to give it a try.
The first time the band performed, it was an unforgettable rush. All band members had performed before, but the 100 or so club members didn't know what to expect. Within the first song the look on everyone's faces went from, "can these guys play?" to "Wow! They're really good." It was fun and encouraging to the newly formed band, to see everyone have a great time that night.
Three more years passed of playing club functions, and Laurie Schaeffer, yet another running club member, approached the band about singing. Laurie can wail; a true rock vocalist who can cut through a mix. With even more energy and vocals up front, the addition of a female singer added a whole new range of music to perform.
A couple of years later, Run for Cover added Rick Stannard, (guitar/vocals). Rick did sound for the band for a couple of years, but was also a member of "DeeBolay." with Jim. The match was meant to be. Rick is an accomplished guitarist who can cover many styles.
Jason Apostoleris is the latest addition to Run for Cover. Jason brings in years of drumming experience, which encompasses everything from New York City jazz clubs and recording sessions to CT rock bands. Needless to say he can cover any style of music thrown at him with authority.
Run for Cover started to play other private functions strictly by word of mouth. The mix of music seems to please a wide range of ages and styles. This is probably due to the varying ages of the members, from 40 to 55, and varying musical tastes: rock, blues, jazz, alternative, country - from 60's to current. As anyone can tell from the set list, the band hits a lot of the 1980's decade rock favorites, along with few 60-70's and a bunch of current party rock tunes to round out a nice set.
The past few years Run for Cover has been playing the local clubs and the summertime outdoor venues. We've taken great pride in always being asked to come back again.
What attributes sets Run for Cover apart from others?
